We came here with several technical upgrades, and we didn't know if we'd be up there particularly after Friday practice, which wasn't spectacular for me. My pole lap was very relaxed: the car has just got better and better as the track has evolved, and I think I would have gone faster on my final lap if the session hadn't been aborted. I didn't expect to be on pole today, but our pace has been really good. Formula one have major twist. Renault take legal action against Piquets.

Renault have started criminal proceedings against their former driver Nelson Piquet and his father for alleging that the team rigged a Formula One race by ordering him to crash.

Renault said "The ING Renault F1 Team will not dispute the recent allegations made by the FIA concerning the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix"

According to his doctor Felipe Massa is recovering well and could walk out of a Budapest hospital within 10 days.

FIA president Max Mosley said in a letter to the eight members of the Formula One Teams Association that there could be no extension to a Friday deadline for them to enter the 2010 championship unconditionally.

Formula One's governing body stuck has decided to stick to its guns after teams made a last-ditch attempt to resolve a crisis that threatens to tear the sport apart

Under the published regulations, teams have an option to race under a £40 million budget cap in exchange for greater technical freedom.

Mosley said the FIA would send each FOTA team a letter for them to sign and return which would make such the proposals legally binding and their entries unconditional.

Last Week KERS came under question.

It seems either a cheap customer option or standardized system will come into place for 2010.

There was much talk of the exciting new technology ahead of the season and once the rather inconvenient problems with electronic discharge through mechanics and drivers were solved there seemed to be a general confidence that the concept was worth investing in, for the sake of Formula One and the future of cars on the road.

If the standardized KERS solution is voted in, those that have not finalised their designs will need to decide whether the advantage it gives is worth spending all that money to get it on their cars later in the year only for their work to be rendered meaningless and of no advantage by its end.

Hamilton was the lead KERS car on the grid, starting fifth for McLaren, and with the boost button fully depressed when the lights went out, he gained two places to rocket up to third then pressed it again to pass Trulli for second later in the lap, although he was re-passed having run out of the limited amount of boost available.

Raikkonen, too, seemed to be a big winner at the start, moving up three spots by the end of the lap.

Asked how he saw Hamilton's future at a team that has supported him since boyhood and whether there had been discussions, Whitmarsh said "I have read some stories this morning but I have obviously spoken to Lewis and Anthony on quite a few occasions.

"In all of those conversations, the commitment from Lewis and Anthony to this team has not altered. There has been no hint of what is reported," he said.

"At the moment, I don't believe what has been reported. What we do know is that we've got to learn from the mistakes that have been made, I've got to learn. I have made mistakes," said Whitmarsh.

"Everything that Lewis and Anthony have said to me has been incredibly appreciative and supportive of what this team has done for them and there's been no hint of anything that would cause me to believe that they would contemplate for this or any other reason leaving this team."

Stewards had reopened their enquiry on Thursday after "new elements" emerged and summoned Hamilton to appear before them at the Sepang circuit.

Their verdict was that "Hamilton and McLaren Mercedes acted in a manner prejudicial to the conduct of the event by providing evidence deliberately misleading to the stewards at the hearing on Sunday

McLaren said "McLaren Mercedes understands that the stewards made their decision on the basis of reviewing radio transmissions between the driver and the team.

he further added that he will accepts the stewards' decision and will not appeal."

"When the safety car came out towards the end of the race, Lewis Hamilton passed me but soon after he suddenly slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road," he said at the time.

"I thought he had a problem so I overtook him as there was nothing else I could do."

Hamilton had told Speed TV that Trulli went wide onto the grass at the second to last corner.

"I was forced to go by. I slowed down as much as I could. I was told to let him back past, but I mean . I don't know if that's the regulations, and if it isn't, then I should have really had third," said the Briton.

No Formula One team had won on their debut since Wolf in 1977 while the last to secure the top two places first time out was Mercedes, Brawn's current engine suppliers in 1954.

After winning the Race Button said It wasn't my best race, but I still won, " This win is for me and the team. That's what I care about. I don't need to poke anyone in the eye about what was said in the past."
